Master/Virtual Device

When multiple, small companies reside at the same location, it is possible to use a single device (set up in Device Management where Type=Master) to record time and attendance transactions from employees of the different companies.

Note

Master devices are supported only when the associated Company Groups are set up by the Valiant Administrator.

Using the Add Device function, an authorized user may configure one or more physical vPod devices as Masters, capable of supporting multiple Virtual devices.  Each virtual device is then assigned finger template ID's (see Virtual Device Considerations in Employee Management) that associate employees with a specific company.  When an employee performs a punch, that template/punch is processed based on the company associated with that virtual device.

Add Master Device

The procedure for adding a Master Device is the same as adding a Normal device, except as follows:

Select the "Master" device Type from the drop-down box.

Click to save the device and related parameters.

Add Virtual Device

The procedure for adding a Virtual Device is the same as adding a Normal device, except as follows:

  1. Select the "Virtual" device Type from the drop-down box.

(Note that other device parameters are disabled, since the Virtual device will assume the parameters of the associated Master Device – Serial Number, IP Address, Port, Clock Mode, Is Wireless, Function Keys, Timezone, Work Code Mode.)

  1. Select the associated Master Device from the drop-down box.

  1. Click to save the device and related parameters.

Note

When adding a Virtual Device, it is not necessary to select the associated Master Device.  This can be done at any time in the future.  In such situations, the system displays, in orange highlight, all devices not yet assigned to a Master.
